Belmont Bay is a mixed use project that includes 1800 residential units in single, multi-family and high rise dwellings. It has a marina with 158 slips, an 18 hole golf course and plans for over 1 million square feet of commercial space. Belmont Bay as a project was conceived by Larry Wilkes and Preston Caruthers in 1986. It was essentially built by Larry Wilkes and Jason Vickers-Smith along with the Epstein and Caruthers families. Larry Wilkes also oversaw the design and construction of the largest light rail stop in Virginia, making Belmont Bay an ideal community for commuting into Washington, D.C.
